FILMMAKER AND ARCHIVIST DALE ANN STIEBER WORKS WITH THE CENTER FOR JAZZ ARTS IN DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL RESEARCH DATABASE
May 20, 2004
Los Angeles --- The Center for Jazz Arts has hired filmmaker and archivist Dale Ann Stieber to lead in the initial planning of a new, online, research database serving the international arts and educational communities. The innovative, Internet-based resource will provide students, journalists, educators, and scholars with an important means for accessing a variety of information involving primary source materials existing throughout the leading archives, libraries, and museums of greater Los Angeles.
Initiated in response to the need for a broader awareness of the rich jazz heritage materials maintained throughout the Los Angeles community, the CJA's online research tools are being developed in cooperation with experts in the fields of library science, arts preservation, digital media, and entertainment studies. Together with its partner institutions, project directors, and researchers, the Center for Jazz Arts is committed to providing the public with greater access to thousands of unique documents and records of Los Angeles history.
Prior to her involvement with the CJA, Dale Ann Stieber served as lead consultant on the creation of a newly established database of visual history programs for the Directors Guild of America. She has been involved as a producer in the U.S. and international film industries for more than fifteen years, and received her Masters in Library and Information Science from the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Southern California. She is a long-standing member of the Alliance for a Media Literate America, the American Society for Information Science and Technology, the Association of Moving Image Archives, and a trustee of the American Cinematheque.
About the CJA:
